Smell a Sweep?

The Yanks pulled out another "W" last night against the Rangers, who are 0-5 this season against NY in Arlington.  A-Rod looks much more comfortable this series than in Toronto.  It must have been the Canadian air I suppose.  Anyhoot, the Yanks showed patience and discipline at the plate last night, and it paid off.  Aaron Guiel went deep again, proving those pinstripes awaken the ghosts of Yankee past.  Moose received his 12th win on the season, and Rivera closed the door for his 24th save.  Jaret "Day & Night" Wright is throwing tonight as the Yankees look for their second sweep of the Rangers in Texas.  Considering his last outing was a disaster, I would say there is a strong chance Wright will have a good outing, but who knows.  The Yanks remain 2.5 behind the Sox Rojo and are just .5 behind the Sox Blanco for the wild card.

The mystery surrounding the departure of Harold Reynolds from ESPN continues to be a mystery.  No where on ESPN.com’s front page is it mentioned, and only on the MLB tab is there a "story" about it.  Basically it says Reynolds in no longer with ESPN, no reason given.  Rumors have swirled that Reynolds, a handsome devil in those suits, was playing graba$$ with interns.  And why not, after looking at a "healthy" John Kruk and Jeff the "cowboy" Brantley, who needs to get rid of the perm by the way, you would probably want to speak to the ladies as well.  Apparently, Reynolds has been known to swoon the phillies running around the studio.  But like I said, you can’t fight the power of those suits he wears.

The other rumor that has surfaced has nothing to do with Reynolds playing doctor and patient with interns, but with his frustration with the big wigs.  An inside source says Reynolds was fed up with the coverage of A-Rod and his struggles, and stood up to the man saying he would no longer be involved in the A-Rod circus.  Well, apparently the man put the smack down, and now Reynolds is out.  There is still hope he demanded everyone call him "Mr. Reynolds, 2 time all-star!" but I think that is just a hopeless dream of mine.

Also touching on something I mentioned yesterday was the idea of Maddux and Clemens retiring and joining up to play in a men’s adult 40+ baseball league and dominating.  After I mentioned that, I wondered if you could put an entire team together for such a league.  Turns out you can, and this is what it would look like.

SP-Clemens, Randy Johnson, Maddux, Tom Glavine, and Kenny Rogers.  Not a bad starting 5.

C-Sandy Alomar Jr.

1B-Julio Franco

2B-Craig Biggio

SS-Omar Visquel.  He’s 39, but let’s say this is for next summer.

3B-Vinny Castilla.  Also 39, but again, next summer.

LF- Barry Bonds

CF-Steve Finley

RF-Moises Alou

RP-Mike Timlin, Roberton Hernandez, and Jose Mesa.

After this season, all of the players need to call it quits, create a "superfriends" like team and tour the country crushing any and all 40+ baseball league teams.  I think this is the most brilliant idea ever thought up, what do you think?
